How to “Study Harder”

When to Study

Same time all the time? When the mood hits? If there’s a test tomorrow? If I get yelled at? Which describes when you study?

  • For most people finding and keeping to a routine time for studying will work best.
  • Some may do their work most efficiently if they begin right after getting home from school. Others may need an hour or so to de-stress and just chill before moving on to study.
  • Some work best before eating dinner and some are only ready once their tummies are full.
  • Many of you have events after school, practice, games, performances etc. Those days will require flexibility in both when and where you study.
  • Be creative. We know of one cross country runner who, as he ran each day, worked on memorizing his biology vocabulary. Another student put post-it notes with vocabulary terms on his bathroom medicine cabinet so that he could learn new words every day while brushing his teeth.
  • Read your material and notes again shortly before bed. Many feel that the mind will subconsciously try to sort and make sense of new information.
